By the time I finished reading this narrative it was like the blinds had been raised up on a foggy window. Story after story in the media and so many other sources portraying the Great Recession outcomes - keep saying underemployment is all the fault of knowledge-less people. Its their own fault for working low-pay jobs. Here, finally is the alternative reason based on a real life experience that I have seen in so many others lives. Hard story..but wonderfully told.
In addition to enjoying the writing style of Robert Waters, and feeling for his difficult personal journey, I found his marketing insights very on target, and think HR professionals should read this book to understand that the profile testing they love so much really are screening out life experience that is often critical in professional positions. This is a fairly quick read which does not get boring.
Waters poignantly describes a depressed job market and his challenges in getting a job in a society that relies more on social media & technology in its interview process than on person-to-person character assessment. After nearly 8 long years of struggle, Waters comes to the realization that the "Only Field that Matters" is that of humanity, family, & faith. Highly Recommend.
Mr. Waters is a wonderful story teller that captivates the reader to continue reading. He shares unbelievable stories of interviews where human resource departments are staffed by people who are rude and unskilled at what they do and his amazing quest in search of a job.This is a must read.
