Australia is such a fantastic destination. Not only are there meat pies in abundance at any time of the day or night, but the people are friendly, there is no tipping and the taxes are included in the prices on display. It's all too easy really and the choices of places to visit and sites to see are endless. On this particular trip I must say my highlights would be my time spent in Melbourne and particularly St Kilda, Canberra's wonderful museums, Paperbark Camp, the town of Kiama, the Sea Cliff Bridge & drive, the dinner at Lilianfels, and my GPS in my car! more
I arrived around midnight on a Saturday night to a wet and windy Wellington, capital city of New Zealand and one of my favourite places on earth. A short taxi ride of around 20 mins and NZD$25.00 later, I arrived at the Novotel Hotel Capital Wellington. more
Patricia's Australian Adventure 2007 April 15 - 29, 2007 My Vancouver travel agent Jason, (remember him? from Adelaide himself – Go, Crows, Go!) ...with great excitement and anticipation at me taking in this event, I might add…he found another event in Sydney on my last night there. Now, it wasn’t HIS team - Go, Crows, Go – but it was the Sydney Swans, of course, home team in their red and white, and the visiting Melbourne Demons, in their red and blue uniforms, with the crowd looking extremely red and white with little splashes of red and blue here and there, albeit loud splashes, I must say! more
We started looking at maps and brochures last fall and booked our initial flights through a fellow Lion early this year. We then found a recommended travel agent through the Tourism Australia website, who is located in Vancouver. Jason Stratford is from Australia and has been wonderful to work with in planning this trip. So....we are now ready! more
It's cool, raining, and windy in Adelaide – kinda like Vancouver. And there is a rainbow over the city as the plane is landing. Takes a couple tries to get sorted out and off to my hotel. Check in, get organized, check e-mail nearby, head to a little place for Malaysian/Chinese food near the hotel (on a recommendation from Jason, my travel agent) – yummy. more
The land is very similar to Fiji, in that there is an abundance of palm trees and gorgeous tropical plants and flowers everywhere, but it's quite a few years behind the times as far as tourism goes. That is why we went to Tonga, why they set up this trip for us, so we can sell it as a destination and help out their country. We were shown a range of accommodations and they are in desperate need of tourists to fill up the hotel rooms.. It is not a location of everyone; you definitely have to go with the flow. more
